A Mindful Plant Sit With Nutmeg
Welcome to our mindful plant sit with Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans). Before we begin, I invite you to gather a few things to help deepen your experience.
Collect a spice jar of Nutmeg or perhaps a bottle of Nutmeg essential oil if available. These elements can add a tangible layer to our meditation, connecting us more intimately with the plant we are honoring. As we embark on this journey, hold the nutmeg close, and smell its sweet and spicy aroma. Feel its texture, and appreciate its weight.
The Nutmeg, a product of slow and careful growth, carries wisdom from years of silently observing the world around it. So, find a comfortable place to sit, hold your Nutmeg or the essential oil bottle, breathe in its unique fragrance deeply, and let's begin our plant sit.

Enjoy the written and recorded versions:
Begin by finding a quiet, comfortable place to sit. Close your eyes and take a few moments to focus on your breath. Feel the cool air enter your body as you breathe in, and the warm air leave your body as you breathe out. Allow this rhythm to anchor you in the present, guiding you into tranquility.
Now, let your imagination transport you to the Banda Islands. Picture the lush, moist deciduous forests teeming with life, the smell of damp earth and rich greenery filling your senses. You are on Pulau Banda Besar, the grand nutmeg island. Feel the warmth of the tropical sun on your skin, and hear the rustle of leaves in the gentle breeze.
Visualize the island's lush green slopes, curling into beautiful crescents around the top of the majestic snow-peaked Mt. Fuji. Allow your senses to transport you to the peak, taking in the panoramic view of the verdant island, the endless cerulean sea, and the azure sky above.

Notice the bright flashes of color as tropical birds flit from tree to tree, their melodious calls echoing through the forest. Feel the gentle breeze stir the leaves, and breathe in the unique fragrance of the sea mingled with the spicy aroma of the nutmeg forest.
Now, direct your focus to the majestic nutmeg tree standing tall amidst the forest. Its smooth, greyish-brown bark and vibrant green leaves paint a picture of resilience and time. Reflect on the tree's journey from a tiny seed to a grand entity, a process that takes nine years to bloom and fifteen to twenty years to produce fruit, symbolizing wisdom, patience, and the beauty of slow growth.
Imagine the tree's fruit as it ripens, the skin splitting open to reveal the brilliant red arils encasing a brown nut. The vibrant red transforms into a warm orange as the arils dry, eventually turning into the spice known as mace.
Now, visualize the nut itself. Hear the soft rattle of the kernel inside the dried nut. Like us, the nut is protected by layers, and its essence lies within these layers. Reflect on the Nutmeg's subtle but significant influence when it is used as a spice and how it enhances the flavor of dishes without overpowering them.
Similarly, reflect on the flavor you add to your life and the lives of those around you. Recognize your worth and your unique contributions to your relationships and experiences.
Let the nutmeg tree remind us that we, too, have inner wisdom nurtured over time and a unique essence protected by layers of our personality.
Now, bring your focus back to your breath. Draw in the nutmeg tree's wisdom and the Banda Islands' tranquility with each inhalation. With each exhalation, release any threads of self-doubt and self-negativity, making room for joy and positive thoughts.
When you're ready, gently open your eyes, and with a smile on your face, bringing yourself back to the present moment. Carry this newfound appreciation and understanding of the nutmeg tree with you as a source of inspiration and mindfulness.
Thank you again for your presence and participation. Until next time, keep exploring the beauty and wisdom of nature.
